Living From Victory

Something the Lord has impressed on my heart in the last year is the need to better understand who we are and whose we are because it’s central to living victoriously.

by Chris C. on November 21, 2017

Who and whose are you?

For starters, we who have come to know God the father and to worship Him in spirit and truth have been given the right to become children of God.  This is a huge deal and it’s all accomplished by repenting of our previous ways and placing our hope and trust in the name and finished work of Jesus and by making him the Lord of our life.

But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
John 1: 12-13, ESV

It literally means that we are born of God, a new creation, and have a new identity and that we are now restored back to right relationship with God the father and it is central to living victoriously.  We don’t have to strain and try to achieve the victory over the things that previously dominated us, whether fears, insecurities, bad habits, habitual sin, or hangups.  He, through his suffering, death, and resurrection has already dominated them, and given us his authority and His Holy Spirit to empower us to walk out our lives from victory.

This is supported here:

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Galatians 2: 20, ESV

The exciting thing here is that the old things that used to dog me and beat me up suffered a violent death at the cross, thank God!

This is so liberating to me because it means that I don’t have to do anything harder, better, faster, or stronger (that would be an epic song title too ;-))than everyone else to somehow earn what the Lord freely gave.  It also means that having this perspective, that Christ Himself via the free agency of His holy spirit gives me the strength I need to be an effective witness and gives me something to offer.  Hopelessness is crushed by God through His Holy Spirit and as such, I can be a conduit for His grace, hope, and healing that is offered to all because He occupies me!  It literally becomes the the living water inside of me that people are desperate for and gives me the courage to love others and see them as the Lord does...for their created value and for the upward call and potential over their life.

And in this we can carry our victory forward to overcome the things that used to trip us up and to speak life into those around us.

So with that understand whose you are and that you’ve been bought with a price...the matchless blood of Jesus, where heaven went bankrupt to redeem you!

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
1 Corinthians 6: 19-20

As you get on with your day today, take stock of who you are and whose you are and apprehend the great privilege we have as followers of Jesus to run with His mandate to share the good news in a world riddled with bad news.  Speak a better word over someone and most importantly love others and speak His word over them...it won’t return void and it will produce a harvest of righteousness!

Remember, we’ve already got THE VICTORY in Jesus and it’s our privilege to co-labor with him in this ministry of reconciliation that is upon us now!
